Houses in Astrology or Jyotish Shashtra is the first step to understanding the Astrological charts and what they represent. Each of the 12 houses in the chart affects different facets of our life.

First House (प्रथम भाव) of the Astrological Chart
This house is also called Lagna Bhav (लग्न या तनुभाव).
The first house stands for physical body (तन) and matters like physical appearance, complexion, head, Intelligence, Strength, Energy,
Personality, the start of life, Dignity, Nature of birth, Fame, Success, the upper part of the body.
Second House is also known as धन भाव
This house stands for money matters. One can refer to this house to give predictions on wealth,
assets, family, speech, right eye, mouth, face, voice, food, tongue. This house is also a Marak sthan( मारक स्थान).
Third House of the Astrological Chart
The third house of the astrological chart stands for matters like Courage, Younger siblings, Mental strength, Communication skills, Creativity, Throat, Ears,
arms, Father’s death (because this house is 7th from 9th house), expenditure on vehicles ( as its 12th from 4th house), short travels.
Fourth House
This house in the chart is primarily for Mother, Vehicles, Property,
House, Lands, Motherland, Education, Fields, Comforts, Luxury, Heart, Family and Happiness.
Fifth House
The first thing that comes in mind from this house is Children.
Other matters related to this house include good deeds of previous lives, Mantras, Love,
Affection, Emotions, Speculation, Lottery, Digestive system, Stomach and knowledge someone will gain.
Sixth House of the Astrological Chart
This house in the chart tells about Enemies, Service, Servants, Diseases, Accidents, Theft, Stress, Hips, Fear, Sickness, Tenants related matters.
Seventh House
This house in the chart stands for a Life partner, Spouse, Business partner, Passion, Sex, Marital life, part of the body below the navel.
This house is also a Marak sthan( मारक स्थान)
Eighth House
This house is related to Occult sciences, Longevity, Debts, Chronic disease, Death, Legacies, Pension, Misery, Misfortune, Sorrow, the family of a spouse,
Inheritance.
Ninth House in the Astrological Chart
It has an immediate connection to the Father, Spirituality and Higher studies. Other matters related to this house include Long journeys, Dharma, Guru, भाग्य,
Grandchildren, Compassion, Charity, Luck, Religious beliefs, Foreign travel, Thighs.
Tenth House
This house represents a person’s Knees, their Profession and Career, Work-life, Father, Fame,
Authority, Honours from the Government, Awards.
Eleventh House of the Astrological Chart
This represents Elder siblings, Income, Profits, Wealth, Ankles, Prosperity, Friends, Left Ear.
Twelfth House
This house stands for Losses, Expenditure, Hospital, Pleasures in Bed, Moksha, Residence away from birthplace, House of separation, Left eye,
Charity, Imprisonment.
